Do's and Don'ts

Do's
Always follow these practices
  • Always keep the cylinder in an upright position
  • Keep your cylinder in a well-ventilated area
  • Check that the safety cap and security seal are in place
  • Use the correct hose and regulator designed for LPG use
  • Replace hoses every 2 years and regulators every 5 years
  • Apply soapy water to check for leaks
Don'ts
Never do these things
  • Never connect cylinder without the safety cap and seal
  • Don't change cylinders near sources of ignition
  • Never store cylinder in basements
  • Don't use a naked flame to check for leaks
  • Never connect cylinder in low-lying areas
  • Don't operate any electrical switch if you smell gas

Safe Storage & Installation

  • Place cylinders in a well ventilated area, away from sources of ignition
  • Check that the safety cap and security seal are in place. Don't accept cylinders without the safety cap and seal
  • Attach the regulator and ensure that it is securely connected to the cylinder valve. Apply soapy water to check for leaks
  • Store cylinders that are not in use in a well ventilated, secure area, preferably out of doors, away from direct sunlight, heat, and other sources of ignition

Safe Usage

  • Use the correct hose and check its condition regularly. Hoses designed for use will be marked with a phrase such as "LPG Hose". It is recommended that hoses be replaced every 2 years
  • Use the correct regulator and check its condition regularly. Branded regulators such as RECA ACE and TPA are recommended. It is also recommended to replace regulators 5 years after the date of manufacture
  • Turn on and light the appliance, light the match first if your appliance does not have automatic ignition
  • Turn off the cylinder valve/regulator and gas appliance when not in use. Follow the manufacturer's instructions regarding the use and maintenance of your gas appliance
